Itinerary:
Day 1 – Christchurch to Lake Tekapo
Start the day making your way across the Canterbury plains with the glorious Southern Alps in sight. It won’t be long before you emerge over the mountain pass and down to the beautiful southern lakes of Mackenzie Country towards Mount Cook National Park. Along the way check out the local provisions of country villages before arriving at beautiful Lake Tekapo where you will find the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd as well as hot pools
and Mount John Observatory or Dark Sky Project for some star-gazing. Overnight Lake Tekapo
Day 2 – Lake Tekapo to Queenstown
Leaving one turquoise lake for another you will start your journey South passing stunning Lake Pukaki, a great point to stop and view Aoraki Mount Cook the ‘Cloud Piercer’. Why not take a detour alon- side the lake to Mount Cook Village? Driving past fields of Merino Sheep and past the fruit trees of Cromwell you arrive in the stunning town of Queenstown, adventure capital of the Southern Hemisphere. You’ll be spoilt for choice of activities to do here! Overnight Queenstown
Day 3 – Explore Queenstown
So much to see and do today and the choice is yours! Go bungy jumping, jet-boating, white-water rafting, wine-tasting, four-wheel driving or cruise the lake on a steamboat to a remote sheep station for a fabulous gourmet buffet at the homestead. Or take a drive to explore the surrounding historic towns such as Arrowtown or Cromwell? Overnight Queenstown
Day 4 – Queenstown to Franz Josef
Make your way over NZ’s highest sealed road and around the lakes to Mount Aspiring National Park and through
the legendary Haast Pass. Lake vistas give way to lush rainforest, rushing rivers and the rugged Tasman Sea driftwood beaches. Look up to discover huge waterfalls and the famous Glaciers that uniquely terminate so close to the sea. Get even closer with a hike or a helicopter ride! Overnight Franz Josef Glacier Village
Day 5 – Franz Josef to Christchurch
Snake your way through Jurassic rainforest today, then alongside the dramatic and rugged coastline of the Tasman Sea, still so close to the mountains. Check out the amazing driftwood beaches and local arts and crafts of the South Island’s rugged West Coast. Enjoy the fabulous drive over Arthur’s Pass with its twists and bends, and long sweeps down the tranquil farmlands of the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch. Return your camper when arranged.
